So who struck the perfect balance today between home school, telecommuting, taking care of the house, living, resting, being a mom, and getting time away with God?
Yeah, don’t worry. Nobody struck a perfect balance today and if today went well, hold on to your hat for tomorrow. I’m a home school veteran. Home schooled through high school. I’ve wanted to home school my own children, but as an widow mom of a four years old, this feels like my real chance to give it a try, to see if I really can do it all.
In theory, I think kids should play and read and explore. But before I went to bed last night, I thought I would quick down some ideas for things to do with Zoya today. There was way to much that I wanted to do, so I had to tell myself 100 times. This isn’t a to-do list. It is a list of ideas.
It didn’t even include the Mo Willem art class that reminded me of the best of Mr. Rodgers at times.
The best advice I heard was probably to just keep calm, embrace the free time, and do what you must. The other more teaching focused advice I heard today was to see what interested your child and explore. So that led to me having to answer a lot of questions about slavery, good guys and bad guys. Thanks a lot Liberty Kids.
Tomorrow, I think my balance will be better. Evaluate and adjust, or daily examen. This normal weekly examen from Sacred Ordinary Days is probably best to use daily for the next few days as we have lost all of our normal rhythms and have a great opportunity to set healthy new ones. Spirit, Body, Mind, Relationships, Home, Work, Resources.
So a little less school, a few concentrated hours for me to do some focused work, a few less conference calls, definitely more focused rest, movement, and time in prayer.
Plus, it is warming up so we will be back in the garden.
Was today ideal? What adjustments do you need to make? Do you need more focus or more carefree rest? More school or less? More prayer? Less news?!
