After two days of living like ships passing in the night, with my only goal while at home was spending time with the baby and getting enough sleep, tonight was a night to stop striving and savor, to spend time with my husband and and reconnect.
And food was, once again, the connecting force.
He had marinated beef in a pomegranate paste mixture, made saffron rice, and some random green, dill, egg, herb mixture and we had it all with yogurt drink. It was food from Rahst, a town in northern Iran and so, in proper Iranian style, we ate slowly and savored.
If you ever have trouble relaxing and sleeping, try drinking salty, watery yogurt drink. It will make you feel like you have taken two benadryl. We collapsed on the bed afterwards and were very grateful that the baby currently doesn’t need any toys except her toes and she lay between us entertaining herself.
It only takes a moment to get back in the life of striving, but it only takes a meal to return to savoring life.
